Delhi: In the 26th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, West Indies' explosive left-handed wicketkeeper batsman Nicholas Pooran made a big record for his team by scoring 17 runs. Pooran broke the record of Universe Boss Chris Gayle in the match played against New Zealand at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. Now he has become the highest run scorer in T20 International cricket for West Indies.
Before this match, Puran needed just 3 runs to break Gayle's record. During this, he also became the first player to score 1900 runs in T20I for West Indies by hitting a ball across the boundary line against Trent Boult and also surpassed the former opener. Earlier, Gayle had 1899 runs to his name, which he scored in 79 matches, but now this record is in the name of Puran.
