The Kiwi team captain made his main bowlers finish their overs early and this proved costly for the Kiwi team as due to this he had to make Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner bowl the last two overs and this proved very costly for them. After losing this match, it has become very difficult for the Kiwi team to reach the Super-8 whereas the West Indies team has reached the Super-8 with three consecutive wins.

But Rutherford along with the lower order players handled the innings and took the team to a respectable score.
