Bangladesh defeated the Netherlands by 25 runs in Match 27 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. With their second win, the Tigers are in contention to become the second team from Group D to make it to the Super 8 stage. Shakib Al Hasan was named the Player of the Match for scoring an unbeaten 64 runs off 46 balls, laced with 9 fours. His innings took the total to 159/5, and the bowlers restricted the Dutch to 134/8.

Shakib was not pleased with the batting effort and reckoned that the total was not a match-winning one. “We didn’t post a match-winning total. The Netherlands were in the hunt, but credit to our bowlers for not allowing them to break free.

‘We were not aware how the pitch would behave as it was the first match over here in five years (10 years). We decided to play cautiously and kept the wickets in hand to go after the bowlers in the death overs. The chase of 160 is often tricky. It is good to get two points from the contest,” Shakib Al Hasan said.

Bangladesh will take on Nepal in their last league match on June 17. A win in that game would confirm their participation in the next round.
