Delhi: The Afghanistan cricket team has reached the Super 8 round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Afghan team has entered the Super 8 along with the West Indies from Group C. They have qualified for the Super Eight with the highest net run rate by winning their third consecutive match, while their victory ended the T20 World Cup challenge of New Zealand captained by Kane Williamson. With Bangladesh's victory, New Zealand as well as Sri Lanka have been eliminated from the tournament.

In the 29th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 played at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad on Friday, Afghanistan bowled first and bowled out Papua New Guinea for 95 runs and then won the match by scoring 101 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in just 15.1 overs. For Afghanistan, left-arm fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqui bowled lethally and took 3 wickets, for which he was awarded the Man of the Match award. Now they have to play their last match of the group stage against hosts West Indies on June 18.

Afghanistan's win knocks New Zealand out of the tournament

With Afghanistan's victory, a big change was seen in Group C. Their victory has had a direct impact on three teams. Now three teams from Group C are out of the race for Super 8, the biggest name among them is New Zealand. New Zealand has played 2 matches so far and the Kiwi team has not won a single match. Along with them, Papua New Guinea and Uganda have also been eliminated from the World Cup.

The Blackcaps team being out of the tournament in this manner is really surprising, because this team has been performing brilliantly in ICC tournaments so far. They had to face defeat against Afghanistan in their first group match and then against West Indies in the second match. Now the fans are unhappy with the team wearing black jersey being out.
