Delhi: Afghanistan cricket team captain Rashid Khan revealed that he calls left-arm fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi the 'superstar' of the team. Farooqi is in excellent form for Afghanistan in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The pacer has played a key role in his team reaching the Super 8 stage. Farooqi is the highest wicket-taker in the current tournament so far, taking 12 wickets in 3 matches.

Rashid praised Farooqi a lot. During the match against Papua New Guinea at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Friday, Farooqi was once again the match winner for Afghanistan. He shook the top order of PNG by taking 2 consecutive wickets in his second over. He was named Player of the Match for taking 3 wickets.

In a video posted on social media by the ICC, Rashid said, “I think he is a superstar for us, the way he has performed for us, we call him a superstar and it is great to see him back in form. He was struggling a bit earlier, but I think this is something that gives us a lot of foundation. A strong foundation, where he started with the ball and got some successes.”

The veteran leg-spinner further said, “Everything has been great so far. Three consecutive wins. It is great to be at the top of the table. We also performed well in the last match, but I think the credit goes to the boys. They took responsibility with both bat and ball, but yes, I think this is a big thing for us. You must know that we have reached the Super Eight in the T20 World Cup for the first time.”

It is worth noting that Afghanistan will face host West Indies in its last match of Group C on Tuesday, 18 June.
