USA seamer Saurabh Netravalkar, spoke about dismissing star Indian batter Virat Kohli, describing it as an emotional moment. Netravalkar had dismissed the batting icon during the India-USA match at the T20 World Cup 2024, played on June 12 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
The 32-year-old Mumbai native exploited Virat Kohli’s vulnerability to deliveries outside the off stump. On the very first ball, he induced Kohli to chase a wide delivery, resulting in an edge that was caught by the wicketkeeper – dismissing Kohli for a golden duck. In addition, the bowler Netravalkar also claimed the prized wicket of India captain Rohit Sharma, sending both the Indian openers cheaply in the chase.
“I’m thrilled to be able to pursue both my passions simultaneously. The rapid pace has been overwhelming, but I’m working to process it all. The last two high-profile games were especially meaningful. Dismissing Virat was an emotional highlight – I was aiming for the off-stump and it paid off,” said Netravalkar to the Times of India.
Netravalkar, a Mumbai-born cricketer, is close friends with India’s Suryakumar Yadav. After Netravalkar’s heroics in the super over against Pakistan during the ongoing World Cup, Yadav congratulated him. Netravalkar mentioned that he received a compliments from Virat Kohli for his outstanding performance.
“I’ve known Surya since our U-15 and U-17 days, and we were reminiscing about the banter in the dressing room. While I didn’t know Virat Kohli personally, he did take the time to congratulate me,” he added.
Netravalkar has been making headlines in the cricketing world since his impressive performance in the super over, where he defended 18 runs against Pakistan. Notably, the left-arm seamer represented India in the 2010 U-19 World Cup before migrating to the USA, where he now works as a developer at Oracle.
