Pakistan are having a forgetful ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. They suffered a shock defeat to the USA in their opening match, followed by a heartbreaking loss to arch-rivals India after squandering a winning position. While they did manage a win against Canada, their hopes of advancing to the Super 8 stage now hang by a thread, dependent on the results of the USA. Former T20 World Cup winner with India, S Sreesanth, has written off Pakistan’s chances of progressing further in the tournament.

In an interview with ANI, cricketer S Sreesanth criticized Pakistan’s approach, stating they neglect their domestic cricket leagues, contrary to the advice of legendary players like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.

“Pakistan appears to be struggling to implement the necessary reforms. Their lack of focus on domestic cricket leagues is concerning. Legends like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis have openly called for a complete overhaul of the system, indicating deep-rooted problems. This suggests Pakistan has significant work to do in order to course-correct,” stated Sreesanth.

Sreesanth went on to sarcastically wish Pakistan ‘all the best’ for the T20 World Cup 2026, adding that their qualification for the Super 8 round would be nothing short of a miracle.

“While I wish them the best of luck for the next World Cup, overcoming their current challenges will be an immense uphill battle. A turnaround from their present position would be nothing short of a miracle,” he remarked.

Additionally, Sreesanth praised the USA team for their performance, who possessed a tough challenge for teams like India and Pakistan.

“In the T20 World Cup, every team appears strong on paper. However, the USA team has proven their worth through their meticulous planning and execution over the past two years, demonstrating their hard work and dedication. They have more than earned their place in the Top 8, and I believe they deserve the opportunity to compete at that level,” he added.
