Pakistan have failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Their fate was sealed when the USA vs IRE match was called off due to rain. Former player Kamran Akmal slammed the Men in Green after the latest setback in the global tournament. The co-hosts got one point, which took their tally to five from four matches and it confirmed their place in the next round.
On the other hand, the Babar Azam-led team has two points from three contests and even a victory in the last game against Ireland will not do any favour to the 2009 champions. Pakistan started the campaign with a defeat against the USA in the Super Over. They lost to India by 6 runs in their second clash of the tournament.
They bounced back with a seven-wicket win over Canada but it was late by then. They needed Ireland’s win over the co-hosts to stand a chance but it never came and the sub-continent nation couldn’t cross the first round.
“It is really very disappointing and sad that team could not reach to the Super Eight, but it is also a bitter fact that Pakistan team played below the average cricket…now its time to rectify the problems,” Kamran Akmal wrote on X.
Babar Azam will face tough questions for his poor captaincy and below-par batting performance.
