Lucknow: Former India opener Gautam Gambhir believes that no player should be dropped on the basis of fitness. Let us tell you that Gambhir has been a topic of much discussion these days. Gambhir's name has been at the forefront of the race as the head coach of the Indian team since Kolkata became the champion under the coaching of the former Indian player. Actually, the tenure of the current head coach Rahul Dravid is ending after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had also sought applications for this. Now Gautam's name is considered to be the frontrunner for this post. However, earlier during a conversation with Sportskeeda, the former legendary batsman has made a big statement.

He said, “Fitness should be a reason for players but not selecting any player on the basis of Yo Yo test is completely unfair. I do not agree with this. Fitness should be directly to the trainer and if the trainer feels that you are completely fit then it is fine. Some people are so physically strong that they lift a lot of weight in the gym. However, if you do not select any player in the team because he is unable to pass the Yo-Yo test, then it is absolutely wrong.”

The former opener further said, “It is the trainer's job to take care of the fitness of the players and they should keep improving physically. I think it is a bit unfair that players are not selected just because they do not pass the Yo-Yo test.”

Let us tell you that a few days ago, the 42-year-old had told during a program that he would like to become the coach of the Indian team. There is no greater honor than becoming the coach of your national team.
