India and Australia have made their mark by performing well in the T20 World Cup 2024 so far. Both are at the top of their respective groups. Both the teams have qualified for the Super 8. In such a situation, former Australian left-arm spinner Brad Hogg hopes that the final of this mega event will be between India and Australia.

“In the Super 8s, Australia and India have got Bangladesh (yet to qualify) and Afghanistan and you expect both the teams to beat Afghanistan and Bangladesh and reach the semi-finals, hopefully that happens. It sets up the possibility of Australia and India in a big final, which I would definitely love to see,” Hogg said.

He further added, “But I think the first game between Australia and India in the Super Eight, the advantage will be with Australia because they are playing in the West Indies where it is difficult, it is slow. While the Indian team is playing in New York where there is some seam movement, the batsmen have not been able to find their rhythm and they are also coming from the IPL where they were playing on many flat wickets.”

The former spinner concluded, “So the adjustment there is huge, that small change, I think it is going to be tough for India in the Super Eights. But when they reach the final it will be a different story, it will be very competitive there as well because India will be used to the conditions.”

Australia and India faced each other in the finals of the last two ICC events in 2023, the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. Both times Australia won the title. India will take on Canada in their last Group A match on Saturday, June 15, while Australia will take on Scotland in their Group B match on June 16. At the same time, India and Australia will face each other in the Super 8 on June 24.
