Pace legend Wasim Akram took a dig at the Pakistan and disclosed the team’s plans. The Men in Green squad were eliminated from the group stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The inclement weather in Lauderhill, Florida led to a points split between Ireland and the USA. As a result, the USA made history by qualifying for the Super 8 stage in their first appearance.

Akram lauded the USA team for qualifying to the Super 8 of the prestigious tournament and securing a spot in the T20 World Cup 2026. He then slammed the Pakistan team, suggesting they should book their flights home after their dismal tournament performance, which was marred by an early exit under the gloomy skies of Florida.

“Congratulations to Team USA for their impressive performance and qualification for the Super 8. Their success reflects the growing globalization of the sport. They earned their place by defeating Pakistan in the previous round match. As for Pakistan, their plan was to travel via Emirates flight EK 601 to Dubai and then onward to their respective destinations. Then we’ll see what happens,” said Akram in a video posted by ICC.

Pakistan’s sole victory in the tournament so far came against Canada. They are scheduled to face Ireland in a Group A match on Sunday, June 16th in Lauderhill, Florida. However, the forecast of flash floods and rainy conditions may prevent the game from taking place. Former Pakistan players have heavily criticized captain Babar Azam, citing concerns over his individual form as well as the team’s overall performance. This marks the earliest Pakistan have ever been eliminated from a T20 World Cup, having played just 3 matches before their fate was sealed.
