Pakistan were eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after the USA vs IRE match was called off due to rain. The sub-continent team needed a favour from the Irish side but the two teams were given a point each after downpour and wet outfield didn’t allow the proceedings. The clash between India and Canada was also abandoned due to wet outfield at the same venue.
Pakistan will take on Ireland on June 16 but it is a dead rubber, considering the qualification of India and the United States of America to Super 8 stage from Group A.
England also need a favour from the weather. It is raining in Antigua and if England’s game with Namibia doesn’t see daylight, the defending champions will be eliminated.
Former India player Navjot Singh Sidhu is miffed with the International Cricket Council. He questioned the lack of facilities.
“There is a room for improvement. ICC will have to make sure that the weather shouldn’t dictate the conditions but it should be the skills of the teams that should dictate the conditions.
“In the match between the USA and IRE, the Super Sopper was knocked off as there was no petrol in it. There were no covers. Basketball and Rugby are played under the roof. It is a fantastic country which is loaded with money.
“The contest between the USA and Ireland didn’t happen and Pakistan were eliminated. Even England could be eliminated because of the rain. That’s not fair. If big teams are left behind because of rain, it will take the sting out the tournament,” Navjot Singh Sidhu on Star Sports.
