India can feel relaxed, having secured their place in the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The subcontinent team defeated Ireland, Pakistan, and the United States of America to go through the second round. The last contest against Canada was a washout. The Indian batters were checked by the rival bowlers, with Virat Kohli being the biggest concern, having managed just 5 runs from three matches.
The surprise package has been Rishabh Pant, who has made a sensational comeback to international cricket after almost 16 months.
He was injured during a car accident in December 2022 and returned to the field for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. He struggled in the Initial matches but went on to score runs in the later stages of the 17th season. Pant was selected in the World Cup squad, and the southpaw has been India’s best batter. He has accumulated runs at the number 3 slot, playing important knocks.
Former India players Irfan Pathan and Sanjay Manjrekar have lauded the wicket-keeper batter.
“Rishabh Pant is an inspiration. The way he has comeback is truly remarkable. If you are hard done by destiny but you don’t give and return back with flying colours, there is no better way to inspire others. Rishabh Pant is a champion cricketer,” Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports.
Manjrekar also hailed the aggressive batter. “Rishabh Pant has been remarkable. He hasn’t batted at the No.3 slot before in T20Is but he hasn’t showed any weakness in the World Cup up. He has looked the most relaxed player on the tricky pitches,” Sanjay Manjrekar said.
