Delhi: West Indies maintained their winning streak in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Windies team won all four matches in the league round. They defeated Afghanistan in the match held on Tuesday. This match was played at the Darren Sammy International Stadium in Saint Lucia. West Indies defeated Afghanistan first on the strength of the batsmen and then the bowlers. The host team continued its winning streak by winning against Afghanistan by 104 runs.

West Indies and Afghanistan have already qualified for the Super-8 from Group C. Today's match was just like a practice match, but Afghanistan had a tough time chasing the tough challenge of 219 runs given by the Windies team. The visiting team was all out for just 114 runs in 16.2 overs. Ibrahim Zadran scored the most runs (38) for his team. Apart from this, no batsman could play a big innings. For West Indies, Obed McCoy took the most (3) wickets, while Akeel Hussain (2), Gudakesh Moti (2), Andre Russell (1) and Alzari Joseph (1) also took important wickets.

Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and invited the host team to bat first. Nicholas Pooran played an explosive innings and thrashed the in-form Afghanistan bowlers. Pooran's explosive innings of 98 runs gave West Indies a difficult target for Afghanistan. Afghanistan's spinners, who have been performing well since the beginning of the World Cup, could not stop the storm of 'Puran'.

West Indies scored 218 runs for 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Puran missed his century by just 2 runs. He played a brilliant innings of 98 runs with the help of 8 sixes and 6 fours in 53 balls. Gulbadin Naib took the most (2) wickets for Afghanistan, while Azmatullah Umarzai and Naveen-ul-Haq took 1-1 wickets.
