T20 World Cup 2024 Match Fixing: The group stage matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 being played under the hosting of USA and West Indies are over. Now before the Super-8 clash, a shocking matter has come to light regarding the tournament. Actually, there has been an attempt of match fixing in the T20 World Cup 2024. A player of the Uganda Cricket Team received several phone calls to fix the match. After receiving the call, the player immediately complained about it to the ICC.
According to news agency PTI, a player of the Ugandan cricket team was contacted for match fixing during a group match of the T20 World Cup. The former Kenyan player contacted the Ugandan player several times from different numbers for match fixing. However, the good thing in this incident was that the Ugandan player followed the ICC's anti-corruption protocol and informed the ACU officials present there about it. The officials took immediate action after the information and have asked this former Kenyan player of all the associate teams to be cautious.
Talking to PTI about the matter, an ICC source said, “It is not surprising that a former Kenyan player targeted a Ugandan cricket team player. Smaller countries are more easily targeted than bigger teams. However, in this incident, the player did a great job by informing the ICC about it as soon as possible.”
The T20 World Cup 2024 was quite memorable for the Ugandan team. In fact, in the current edition, they won their first World Cup match by defeating Papua New Guinea. However, the team could win only one match in the group stage and is out of the tournament.
This is not the first time that match fixing has been attempted on the cricket field. The names of many big players have come up from time to time in the circle of match fixing. ICC has also banned many players for match fixing. This includes many big names like Mohammad Aamir, Salim Malik, Salman Butt of Pakistan.
