Andries Gous’ unbeaten 80 off 47 deliveries went in vain as USA fell to a 18-run reverse at the hands of South Africa in the Super 8 of T20 World Cup 2024 in Antigua on Wednesday.

Gous opened the innings for the co-host in the absence of captain Monank Patel and kept his chase in the hunt till the penultimate over of the innings.

With 28 runs needed off 12 deliveries, Kagiso Rabada prised out the wicket of Jasdeep Singh and gave away just two runs to pull South Africa to its fifth straight win in the competition.

USA ended its innings on 176/6.

In the first essay, Quinton de Kock struck a 40-ball 74 to take the Proteas to 194 runs in 20 overs. Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen were the next highest scorers for side, scoring 46 and 36 runs, respectively.
