Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi slammed a fan, who verbally abused Haris Rauf in the United States of America. Naqvi issued an ultimatum to the fan following the reported altercation between Rauf and him.
Rauf didn’t like the offensive comment made by one of the fans and ran angrily ran towards him, despite his wife’s attempts to calm him down the speedster. The confrontation escalated into a brief scuffle, but Rauf eventually returned to the sidewalk where his wife was waiting. The video went viral on social media platforms as fans expressed mixed reactions on Rauf’s anger.
The PCB chief took to social media, demanding that a fan should apologize or the board would pursue legal action.
“Strongly condemn the appalling incident involving Haris Rauf. Such actions against our players are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Those who are involved must immediately apologise to Haris Rauf, failing which we will pursue legal action against the individual responsible,” he wrote on X.
In a public statement, Rauf claimed the fan had made distasteful remarks about his family, which prompted his outburst. He tweeted.
“As public figures, we are open to receiving all kinds of feedback from the public. They are entitled to support or criticize us. Nevertheless, when it comes to my parent and my family, I will not hesitate to respond accordingly. It is important to show respect towards people and their families, irrespective of their professions.”
The Pakistan cricket team has faced intense scrutiny since failing to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Now, the controversy surrounding Rauf has once again put the team under the microscope. Pakistan lost their first two group stage matches against co-hosts USA and rivals India and they finished third in their group with four points. They ended their campaign with a win over Canada and Ireland but it was not enough to take them to the next round.
