Delhi: Indian women's team's star opening batsman Smriti Mandhana has created history. She has become the first Indian woman player to score two consecutive centuries in ODI cricket. Apart from this, she is also the first Indian women cricketer to score two centuries in a series.

Smriti Mandhana achieved this feat by scoring a century in the second match of the three-match ODI series against South Africa in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Mandhana (136 runs in 120 balls with the help of 18 fours and 2 sixes) scored an aggressive century in this match. In the same series, Smriti (117) also scored a century in the first ODI held in Bangalore.

This is the left-handed opener's seventh ODI century. She has equaled former women's batsman Mithali Raj's record for scoring the most ODI centuries for India, but Smriti played 127 innings less than Mithali.

Mithali Raj has scored 7 centuries in 211 ODI innings. Smriti achieved this feat in 84 innings. After this, the names of Harman Preet Kaur (5 centuries in 113 innings), Poonam Raut (3 centuries in 73 innings) and Thirush Kamini (2 centuries in 37 innings) are included in this list.

Mandhana recorded her highest score

Smriti Mandhana scored 136 runs in this match and recorded the best score of her career in ODIs. In this sequence, she surpassed the record of her personal highest score. The opener had scored 135 runs against South Africa in 2017.

Batting first in this match, the Indian women's team scored 325 runs for 3 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Apart from Smriti Mandhana, captain Harmanpreet Kaur (103 not out in 88 balls with the help of 9 fours and 3 sixes) also scored a brilliant century.
