Former India pacer S.Sreeshath opines Hardik Pandya could turn out to play a similar role for India in their ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, to what Yuvraj Singh did during the side's 2011 ODI World Cup triumph.Sreeshath hailed Hardik's all-rounder abilities as a key factor for India to ensure their long-desired glory in the tournament, while drawing reference to skipper Rohit Sharma's comments after their Australia clash.

After a tumultuous Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Hardik answered his critics in quite an emphatic fashion by often playing the pivotal role in India's success in the T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya has been at the centre of a lot of slandering and criticism from fans and former greats of the game, ever since he took over the captaincy of MI in IPL 2024 from Rohit Sharma.

Stretching his ill fortune, MI finished at the bottom of the IPL 2024 poimts table under Hardik's leadership. However, the 30-year-old made a dramatic comeback to form by puting in effective shifts with both the bat and the bowl for India so far in their T20 World Cup campaign.

The all-rounder has bagged 8 wickets and scored 116 crucial runs in India's all six fixtures in the competition.

Speaking to Star Sports, Sreeshanth heaped praise and explained how India will be putting a lot of faith on Hardik Pandya's performance for the rest of their campaign. " The last conference where he (Rohit Sharma) said Hardik Pandya is a key player in the team.

What Yuvraj Singh did in the 2011 as an all-rounder, with bat, with ball and his fielding, I think Hardik is very much capable of doing that in this T20 World Cup. I think none of us will be surprised if Rohit lifts the trophy," Sreeshanth said.

Hardik's brisk and unbeaten 27 off 17 balls went onto play a key rrole in India decisive win over their arch-rivals Australia on June 24, which saw the side effectively seal their spot in the T20 World Cup semi-final against England on June 27.
