Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu praised star batsman Virat Kohli of India for his game-winning strike against South Africa in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup final.

Virat came through when it counted most, hitting 76 in 59 balls with six fours and two sixes after only scoring 75 runs in the competition’s first seven innings. His runs were made with a 128.81 strike rate. With his scoring, India reached 176/7 in 20 overs, which they successfully defended to limit South Africa to 169/8 in an exciting match.

“When it mattered most, when 1.5 billion Indians were praying for victory and hoping that we did not choke at the final hurdle, he stood like the rock of Gibraltar in the sea of ruins,” Sidhu remarked of Virat in an interview with Star Sports.

When India’s ship became trapped, he performed and handed the World Cup title while keeping one end intact.

After retiring from Twenty20 international cricket, Sidhu said that Virat will be regarded as a “icon and greatest inspiration” since he did not let his run-rate to decrease once throughout the tournament.

Even though he scored 24 and 38 in this event, he didn’t allow the run rate to decline. There was Virat of a different type.

He is a genius, a great performer, a man of the people, and a man of adversity.
