Delhi: On Wednesday (16 September), BCCI announced the squad of Team India for the three-match ODI series against West Indies. In the 15-member team, most eyes are on the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both the players have returned to the ODI team after a break of about two months.
With Rohit Sharma getting a place in the team, the ongoing discussions regarding his ODI future have also come to an end for the time being. After scoring 11 and 26 runs in the first two ODIs on the England tour, Rohit played a brilliant inning of 137 runs in the third match. However, his innings could not bring victory to Team India.
The captaincy of the ODI team will remain in the hands of Shubman Gill, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will support him in the top order. This series will also be important for Gill, because the team management is now trying to create a good balance between young and experienced players in ODIs.
Apart from Rohit and Virat, the team also includes batsmen like Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Gaikwad has returned to India's ODI team after a long time.
Two new faces have got a place in the ODI team. All-rounder Naman Dheer and fast bowler Aaqib Nabi have been included in the ODI team for the first time. At the same time, Nitish Reddy has been removed from the Asian Games 2026 team and selected for the ODI series against West Indies.
Experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also returned to the team. The bowling department includes players like Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and Mohammed Siraj.
The surprising thing during this time was that veteran fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has not got a place in the squad. BCCI said that Bumrah has been given rest. Perhaps the board has taken this decision keeping the 2027 World Cup in mind.
Let us tell you that three ODI matches will be played between India and West Indies. The first match will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on 27 September, the second in Guwahati on 30 September and the third in New Chandigarh on 3 October. All three matches will start at 2 pm.
