The Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the remainder of the Australia ODIs against South Africa due to a fractured finger.

He broke his right index finger while keeping in the first ODI in Durban, but carried on keeping and even batted in the chase. He scored 3 three off 4, and Australia lost the game by 67 runs. But the extent of the injury has ruled him out of the series.

He will be also in race against time to mend his finger for the highly anticipated Test series that kicks off in Durham on October 09.

Josh Inglis has played 43 ODIs, 49 T20Is and 5 Tests where he amassed a total of 4617 runs across formats.

Josh Inglis is the back-up keeper to Alex Carey in Australia’s Test squad but is still in contention to make it to the playing 11 as a specialist batter if he can recover on time.

“With his availability for the ‌three-match Test series subject to further ​assessment and progress,” said Cricket Australia in a statement.

Australia haven’t named a replacement for Inglis for the remaining two ODIs but might have to consider their options for the Test series should he not recover in time.

Australia and South Africa are set to play a three-match Test series as a part of the WTC 2025-27 cycle. Both are in the top two spots of the WTC 2025-27 points table.

The three-match test series will begin on October 09 at Kingsmead, while the second test will be played between October 18 and 22 in Gqeberha.

Meanwhile, the third test will be played between October 27 and 31 in Cape Town.
