India beat West Indies by 8 wickets in the series opener on September 27. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli scored hundreds at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram to take the team to 41.4 overs. Chasing 296 runs to go 1-0 in the three-match series, Kohli and Gill added 151 runs for the second wicket.

Shubman posted his 10th ton in the fifty-over format and was dismissed after accumulating 110 off 108 balls, including 13 fours and 1 six.

On the other hand, Kohli remained unbeaten on 139 runs off 88 deliveries, with the help of 10 fours and 9 sixes. He has taken his century count to 55 in ODIs and also become the second batter to amass 15,000 runs in the format. The 37-year-old is also the fastest to complete 15,000 runs.

Virat has also broken Sachin’s record for scoring the most runs in ODIs at home. He needed 110 runs to surpass Sachin, and the veteran did it in style.
