The preparations for the fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League have gathered pace, with all five franchises confirming their retained players ahead of the WPL 2027 auction. The retention lists were announced on Monday, September 28, giving a clear picture of the squads that will form the core of each team next season.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already confirmed that the WPL 2027 season will be played across January and February next year. The auction is scheduled to take place on October 28 at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi, where the franchises will look to complete their squads ahead of the new campaign.
Defending champions RCB retain strong core
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru have retained a group featuring several established international names and key Indian players. Their list includes Ellyse Perry Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, Lauren Bell, Radha Yadav and Shreyanka Patil. With a blend of experienced overseas players and Indian talent, the defending champions have maintained considerable continuity ahead of the 2027 season.
Delhi Capitals have also retained a sizeable group, with Jemimah Rodrigues, Laura Wolvaardt, Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland among the prominent names.
Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians keep key players
Gujarat Giants have retained several high-profile international players, including Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine. Their Indian contingent includes Bharti Fulmali and Yastika Bhatia.
Mumbai Indians have similarly kept a core featuring some of the biggest names in women’s cricket. Harmanpreet Kaur, Hayley Matthews, Amelia Kerr and Natalie Sciver-Brunt headline their retained players
UP Warriorz retain Meg Lanning, Deepti Sharma
UP Warriorz have retained 11 players, with former Australia captain Meg Lanning India all-rounder Deepti Sharma and England spinner Sophie Ecclestone among the notable names. Phoebe Litchfield, Harleen Deol are also part of the retained squad.
With the retention announcements now complete, attention will shift towards the WPL 2027 auction in Kochi. The October 28 event will provide the five franchises with an opportunity to reshape their squads before the league returns in January and February.
