The Men in Blue, led by Shubman Gillcompleted an easy eight-wicket win in the first ODI match against West Indies on Sunday. The game, which was played in Thiruvananthapuram, saw the home team reach the 296-run target in 41.4 overs.

The second game of the series will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday.

There is massive excitement as India’s star veteran duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be heading to a venue where they have scored plenty of runs. Virat amassed an unbeaten ton in the series opener and also became the second cricketer to reach 15,000 ODI runs.

Rohit, on the other hand, looked in complete control before his dismissal. The former Indian skipper was out in the 30s once more against the run of play while trying to hit a six.

Virat Kohli’s record at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium

It has been nearly a decade since Virat played at this venue. His first innings in Guwahati was as a captain in the first-ever ODI at this venue against the visiting Caribbean side in 2018. Shimron Hetmyer scored 106 off 78 balls to help the visitors reach 322.

Kohli replaced Shikhar Dhawanwho was dismissed by Oshane Thomas. He went on to score 140 runs from just 107 balls with 21 boundaries and two sixes before falling to Devendra Bishoo.

Five years later, when India took on Sri Lanka, the veteran batter notched up 113 runs from 87 balls. His knock was laced with 12 boundaries and a six as the home team posted 373 and won the game by 67 runs.

Rohit Sharma’s record at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium

Opening batter Rohit Sharmajust like his teammate, has an impressive record at this venue. The 39-year-old scored 152 not out off 117 balls in the IND vs WI ODI in 2018. The right-handed batter hit 15 boundaries and eight sixes to take the team home with 47 balls to spare.

In 2023, the star cricketer came back to Guwahati as the captain of the national side. In the first ODI of the series against the Lankans, Rohit scored 83 off mere 67 balls with the help of nine boundaries and three sixes. Meanwhile, theformer skipper needs 73 runs to reach 12,000 runs in ODI cricket, and Barsapara Stadium could be the ideal venue to achieve the feat.
