Sri Lanka's men's cricket team made an unbelievable batting performance against India in the Asian Games 2026 during the T20I semifinals on October 1, resulting in an all-out 45 in 9.5 overs. The score was recorded at the Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin, Japan. This was Sri Lanka's lowest-ever men's T20I score, breaking their record of 77 runs, set against South Africa in New York on June 3, 2024.

Sri Lanka's 45 also equals the lowest among Full Members' records for men's T20I. It is the same as what the West Indies achieved against England in Basseterre on March 8, 2019. India defeated Sri Lanka by 124 runs, giving the latter the second-largest loss in men's T20I history. The first place belongs to the match between Sri Lanka and Australia in Adelaide, which resulted in a 134-run victory for Australia in 2019.

India bowlers dismantle Sri Lanka for 45 in Asian Games semifinal

India's bowling attack struck early and often against Sri Lanka's innings as the batters struggled to settle down to the chase. Axar Patel was at his very best, claiming a sensational three wickets for 8 runs, while Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets for seven runs. Abhishek Sharma also had a share in the Sri Lankan top order collapse, claiming two wickets for two runs. Washington Sundar wrapped it up with a solitary scalp for 18 runs.

The Sri Lankan batsmen continued to struggle as the collapse continued throughout the innings, as five batters failed to score any runs, either being dismissed for a duck or not facing a ball. This tally of ducks by one team in a men's T20I innings is the joint-second highest, with Zimbabwe recording the highest number of six ducks against West Indies in 2010.

Nuwanidu Fernando was the only Sri Lankan batsman to register a double-digit score, finishing with 15 runs. The lack of support from the lower order saw the Sri Lankan innings folded inside 10 overs, as India registered a huge 124-run win.

Ishan Kishan, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi power India to 169/7

India had posted 169/7 in the allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 80 off 46 deliveries with the bat, hitting four fours and five sixes. He played a pivotal role for the batters at the end of the innings, helping them register a competitive total against a strong Sri Lankan bowling attack.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played a useful hand at the other end, scoring 38 off 21 deliveries. The two lower-order batters' contributions saw India post a challenging total for the chasing batters.

The 124-run win also saw India equal their own record for the most 100-plus wins in men's T20I cricket. The win was India's 11th win by a hundred or more runs, equaling their record in the shortest format of the game.

The semifinal at Korogi Athletic Park was a complete one-sided contest, as Sri Lanka were bowled out with little resistance from India's batters. The dramatic collapse saw India register a huge win to reach the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket final in emphatic fashion.
