Gavaskar was disappointed at being dismissed for 92.

Rohit Sharma looked in great form in the third ODI against the West Indies, but he was dismissed for 92, missing out on a century. After scoring a century in the second match, Gavaskar hoped the “Hitman” would reach three figures in the third match as well.

Expressing disappointment over Rohit’s dismissal, Sunil Gavaskar said:

Gavaskar narrated the unfulfilled dream of his career

Explaining the reasoning behind his appeal, Gavaskar recalled the final phase of his career, noting that he didn’t score as many centuries as he would have liked in the final years of his career.

Gavaskar said that he was dismissed between 90 and 99 runs three times in the final stages of his Test career. If those three innings had been converted into centuries, his Test century tally would have increased from 34 to 37 and he would have reached his prime. It is because of this pain that he wants Rohit Sharma to achieve this milestone.

How is Rohit Sharma’s ODI career?

Rohit Sharma has been in excellent form in the current series against the West Indies. Here are his career stats so far:

  • Total ODI matches: 291
  • Total runs: 12,120
  • Average: 49.27
  • Centuries: 35
  • Half centuries: 63

Rohit Sharma is currently approaching 39 years of age. To achieve Gavaskar’s target, Rohit will need to score at least four to five more ODI centuries before retirement, taking his century tally past 39-40.
