Delhi: Mumbai Cricket Association has announced its 16-member strong team for Ranji Trophy 2026-27. For the upcoming season, experienced batsman Siddhesh Lad has been given the command of the Mumbai team, while 19-year-old young sensation Ayush Mhatre has been made the vice-captain.

Many star players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan have also been included in this Mumbai team.

Big responsibility for Ayush Mhatre

Ayush Mhatre has played 13 first-class matches so far, in which he has scored 660 runs at an average of 30. Mhatre is counted among the most promising young players of Mumbai cricket. After Bihar made 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi the vice-captain, now Mumbai has also played a big bet on young talent.

Shock to Suryakumar Yadav, selectors ignored him

T20 World Cup 2026 winning captain Suryakumar Yadav had expressed his availability for the entire Ranji season, but the selectors decided not to include him in the team. Surya has been out of the plans of the national red-ball team for a long time. He played his last first-class match against Vidarbha in February 2025.

Chief selector Rajesh Pawar made it clear that the committee wants to give more opportunities to the youth instead of senior players. However, he has not closed the door for Surya and said that he will have to play consistently in domestic red-ball cricket to make a comeback.

Entry of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan

Following BCCI instructions, Yashasvi Jaiswal will be available for red-ball practice in the initial matches ahead of the upcoming Test tour against New Zealand. Apart from them, explosive batsmen Sarfaraz Khan and Musheer Khan have also been included in the squad.

On the other hand, all-rounder Shardul Thakur has not been able to be a part of this team due to an injury suffered during practice.
