Mumbai Star batsman Suryakumar Yadav has not got a place in the Mumbai team for the first match of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) selectors announced a 16-member squad for the match against Chandigarh on October 5. Cricket fans are surprised by the absence of Suryakumar Yadav’s name in the team. It is being told that Surya himself had expressed his desire to play Ranji matches, yet the selectors did not include him in the team.

According to an MCA source, the main reason for Suryakumar Yadav’s non-selection is his continuous absence from the pre-season training camp and staying away from red-ball cricket for a long time.

The Mumbai team has been practicing with the red ball for the last one month to prepare for the Ranji season, but Suryakumar was not a part of the camp during this period.

Suryakumar did not reach the training camp

An MCA source quoted by news agency PTI said that Suryakumar has not played any red-ball match in recent times. At the same time, other players of the team were continuously preparing for Ranji Trophy by participating in training camps.

According to the source, the selectors had also tried to contact Suryakumar about 10 days ago, but no response was received from him at that time. Later Suryakumar declared himself available for selection. However, by then the selectors decided to give priority to those players of the team who had been practicing regularly in the camp for a long time.

The selectors believed that it would not be appropriate to include Suryakumar directly in the team by keeping the young players who had been preparing for about a month sitting out.

For this reason, Suryakumar was not given a place in the team for the first match of Ranji Trophy to be held against Chandigarh from 11 to 14 October.

How will Surya make a comeback in Mumbai team?

The doors of Mumbai’s Ranji team are not completely closed for Suryakumar Yadav. He can regain the trust of the selectors by playing in local tournaments. For this, they will have to prove their form and preparation for red-ball cricket by participating in tournaments like Mumbai Cricket Association’s Police Shield or Purushottam Shield.

If Suryakumar performs well in these matches and impresses the selectors, he can be included in the Ranji team for the subsequent matches.

Shardul Thakur also got injured

Meanwhile, the Mumbai team has suffered a setback due to the injury of all-rounder Shardul Thakur. Due to hand injury during practice, he may remain out of the field for at least a month.

Siddhesh Lad has been made the captain of the Mumbai team for the first Ranji match.

Looking at the current situation, he can be seen captaining the team in the upcoming matches of the season also.
