veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named in the India squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series vs New Zealand. The 36-year-old is returning to the side four years after playing his last game in the blue jersey.
Former wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthikwho has seen the seamer from close quarters, was overjoyed with his return. The 41-year-old took to his social media handle and posted a video where he could be heard saying, “Bhuvi is back in the Indian cricket team.”
“To all Indian cricket fans, to all RCB fans, and especially fans of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, how long have you guys waited for this? Can it happen to a better person and a skilful bowler? Now, Team India, in the last year, have tried all pacers. If you look purely at skills, Bhuvi has been exceptional. Two IPL titles that RCB have won, and everyone knows the role he has played. Just last year, when every game was nearly a 200-run affair, he claimed 28 wickets at less than eight runs per over.”
Karthik joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru as their mentor and batting coach post his retirement at the end of 2024 season. He played a key role in bringing the pacer to the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and that has paid rich dividends.
“Those are just numbers. When we were discussing ahead of the mega auctions in 2025, there was just one name, which was Bhuvi, and we felt we had to get him because of the quality he brings. He can bowl with the new ball, swing it both ways, and can bowl yorkers under pressure,” Karthik mentioned.
“Firstly, well done to the selectors for having the courage to pick someone. I am so happy because it couldn’t happen to a nicer man, and he is a different person from the one who played in 2022. I genuinely wish he goes out there and enjoys the rest of the time he plays international cricket. He deserves it.”
