India captain Shreyas Iyer credited his bowlers with a disciplined performance as they scripted a 14-run win over the West Indies in the third T20I in Indore on Sunday. The win gave India a 2-1 series advantage over the visitors in the five-match T20I series.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Iyer said he was delighted with the display of confidence, clarity, and the ability of his bowlers to execute their plans under pressure. He was especially thrilled that each bowler took up the responsibility wholeheartedly whenever he tossed the ball to them.

“It was wonderful because the bowlers were pretty confident with what they wanted to execute.

The clarity was much more visible. They were decisive in their execution, and when I was passing the ball to them, each bowler was up for the challenge, and that's what you want,” Iyer said.

Shreyas Iyer praises Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan

The Indian skipper also praised the efforts of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan for providing a flying start to the side. Abhishek top-scored by hitting a 30-ball 69 while Kishan hammered 37 off 18 balls to torment the West Indies bowlers.

Iyer also appreciated Prince Yadav's late cameo and said that the extra runs were crucial on a high-scoring pitch.

The Indian batsman said that they cannot take West Indies lightly and added that the side needs to be on their toes on a batting-friendly track.

“Honestly, that was a phenomenal start. Abhishek doing what he does in the powerplay and Kishan coming in. He's been great in the last few months. Even Prince (Yadav) playing a cameo in the end; those were crucial runs.

“West Indies, you can never take them lightly. So, we had to make sure we never got complacent. These are high-scoring grounds, but it's important to stick to our process and follow our routines and make sure we stay offensive,” Iyer said.

West Indies captain Shai Hope felt that his team could have been more clinical with the ball in hand after winning the toss and fielding first. He added that a few chances that went by in the game proved to be decisive in the end.

“So many things you can put your finger on. But cricket games have small margins. As a winning team, you can pick out defining moments. Probably with the ball, we could have executed better, and we let a few boundaries through,” Hope said.

However, the West Indies skipper said that he was satisfied with the way the side fought back after a scintillating start by India. He heaped praise on the opening stand of Abhishek and Kishan and said that Roston Chase's stand at the crease helped them get back in the game.

“I believe that the way we came back into the game was quite commendable. From the outset, if you look at that partnership (Abhishek and Kishan), it was a very dangerous one. But we got some wickets with Roston, and we pulled it back,” he added.

Hope further felt that the opening stand of the innings is something that his team needs to work on.

However, he did not want to put the blame on any specific player.

“Yeah, we have to find a good opening partnership to lay the platform, but can't point your finger on one or two guys,” he added.

On the pitch condition and the role of dew in the game, Hope said that it did play a part and added that towards the end of the innings, the ball started to tail. However, he gave credit to India's bowlers for executing their yorkers on a difficult pitch.

“It (dew) did play a part. We felt that towards the end of our innings, as the ball was starting to tail a bit more. But credit to the Indian bowlers. They bowled really well and showed us how to execute yorkers. Credit to them,” he concluded.
