India have added experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar to their squad for the fifth and final T20I against West Indies after Arshdeep Singh sustained a blow to his bowling shoulder during the previous match. The series decider will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 17, with Arshdeep's availability to be assessed before the game.
Arshdeep sustained the blow during the fourth T20I against West Indies in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The injury prompted the Men's Selection Committee to add Bhuvneshwar to the squad ahead of the final match.
However, Arshdeep has not been ruled out of the Bengaluru T20I. According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a decision on his participation will be taken before the match, depending on his recovery.
The left-arm pacer remains listed in India's updated squad, leaving his availability as one of the key selection questions before the series finale.
Bhuvneshwar's inclusion gives India another experienced pace-bowling option for the series decider.
The 36-year-old was also named in India's squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, which is scheduled to begin later this month. His last T20I appearance for India came in November 2022. His addition to the West Indies squad therefore brings him into contention for an international return, although selection in the squad does not guarantee a place in the playing XI.
The fifth T20I will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 17. India will finalise their plans after assessing Arshdeep's recovery ahead of the series finale.
