Delhi: Big news has come out regarding the mini auction of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027. According to the report of Cricbuzz, the auction of players can be held in Goa on 16th December. After a long wait of three years, IPL auction is going to be organized in India. However, BCCI has not yet officially confirmed the date.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also preparing to seek opinion from IPL franchises regarding the Impact Player rule.

In such a situation, the future of this rule can be decided before the upcoming season.

Mini auction for IPL 2027 to be held in Goa on 16th December

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia had told in September that there is a plan to organize the IPL auction in Goa in December. Let us tell you that earlier the auction was held in Dubai in 2023, Jeddah in November 2024 and Abu Dhabi in December 2025.

IPL 2027 is expected to have a mini auction instead of a mega auction. All franchises will have to submit the list of their retained and released players by 15 November 2026.

After this, in the auction, teams will get a chance to buy players as per their need.

Date may clash with India-Sri Lanka match

An ODI match between India and Sri Lanka is also proposed in Bengaluru on 16 December. In such a situation, there may be a conflict between the possible date of IPL auction and the match schedule. However, till now there has been no official confirmation from BCCI about the change in the schedule of the match.

Will there be a decision on impact player rule also?

The Impact Player rule is also in discussion amid the preparations for IPL 2027.

BCCI is preparing to seek fresh opinion from the franchises regarding this rule. At present, this rule is applicable till 2027.

Under this rule, teams can replace one player with another at any time during the match. However, players like Shubhman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Akshar Patel have expressed concern over this. He believes that this may reduce the role of real all-rounders.

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal had earlier said that the board will take the final decision on this rule only after taking the opinion of all the parties.

In such a situation, it remains to be seen whether the impact player rule continues in IPL 2027 or it is removed.
