Delhi: It is important for every team to follow the rules on the cricket field, but in the ODI match played between the Under-19 teams of Bangladesh and Afghanistan, an incident has come to light which has created controversy. In fact, Bangladesh Cricket Board has written a letter to Afghanistan Cricket Board complaining that in the third ODI, Afghanistan captain Sohail Khan bowled 11 overs instead of the prescribed 10 overs.
This match was part of the series being played between the two teams on Wednesday. The Bangladesh team also raised this matter with the match officials. Apart from this, the board has also raised questions on some umpiring decisions.
According to Bangladesh Under-19 team coach Hannan Sarkar, the team came to know from its analyst's records that Afghanistan captain Sohail Khan had completed his 10 overs. Despite this, he came on the field to bowl one more over.
Bangladesh team was not able to reach the official scorer's record at that time. In such a situation, the match was being monitored by looking at the Cricinfo scorecard on the team manager's phone.
Sarkar told that by the time the team came to know about this mistake, Sohail had started the 11th over. After the end of the over, Bangladesh immediately informed the umpires about this. However, by then that over was completed.
According to Bangladesh's complaint, the official scorer's mistake was crucial in this entire matter. The team claims that one over of Sohail Khan was mistakenly credited to Shah Faisal Rahimi's account, whereas that over was actually bowled by Sohail.
Hannan Sarkar told that initially another bowler had given his cap to the umpire to bowl the over, but later he changed his decision and the Afghanistan captain himself came to bowl. The scorers could not register this change and the over was credited to the wrong bowler.
Bangladesh has also handed over the video of this over to match referee Yasir Latifzai. The team raised this matter in detail during a long conversation with the match referee.
