Delhi:The player auction for the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2027 will be held in Kochi on October 28. In this mini auction, all five franchises will bid to fill the remaining places of their teams. The fate of a total of 146 players will be at stake, while the teams have to choose players for only 27 vacant places. In such a situation, it will not be easy for every franchise to bet on the right player.
Some teams have the opportunity to choose as many players as per their needs, while some franchises have to work within a limited budget. UP Warriors have the most money left, while Mumbai Indians will have to complete their team in the lowest budget. In this auction, along with big international names, young Indian players will also be under watch.
The mini auction for WPL 2027 will be held on Wednesday, 28 October 2026. The auction will start at 5:30 pm Indian time. This is an auction to be held after major team changes before the 2026 season.
The fifth season of the Women's Premier League is to be played from 14 January to 7 February 2027. However, the complete schedule of the tournament and the venues of the matches have not been announced yet.
This time the auction of players will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Kochi, Kerala. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had announced the date and venue of the auction in September. On this occasion, all five franchises will try to make necessary changes in their teams and fill the vacant places.

This is a mini auction, so teams will bid on new players for the vacant places while retaining their existing players. The total salary purse of each franchise is Rs 15 crore. This also includes the amount spent on the players already in the team. Therefore, all the teams have different budgets left for the auction.
There can be a maximum of 18 players in a team. Six foreign players can be included in these. Normally a maximum of four foreign players can be included in the playing XI. In case of inclusion of a player from an associate country, permission may also be given to field an additional foreign player.
The auction list includes uncapped cricketers along with experienced players from India and abroad. According to available information, there are 22 capped Indians, 97 uncapped Indians, 14 capped foreigners and 13 uncapped foreign players in the pool. Apart from this, six foreign players from associate countries are also included in the auction list.
The strategy of all the teams in the auction will depend on their remaining budget and vacant places. UP Warriors have the most money left, while Mumbai Indians have the least.
| Team | remaining budget | empty spaces |
|---|---|---|
| UP Warriors | Rs 3.75 crore | 8 |
| gujarat giants | Rs 1.25 crore | 3 |
| Royal Challengers Bangalore | Rs 1.15 crore | 5 |
| Delhi Capitals | Rs 1.10 crore | 5 |
| Mumbai Indians | 90 lakh rupees | 6 |
A total of 27 players have to be filled between the five teams, which includes slots for seven foreign players. Mumbai Indians have no space left to choose foreign players. In such a situation, the franchise will have to focus on Indian players.
Before the auction, the five franchises have retained a total of 63 players in their teams. These include 23 foreign players. Teams have made preparations to fill the vacant positions by keeping their key players.
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh and Ellyse Perry.
Mumbai Indians: Harmanpreet Kaur, Nate Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr.
Delhi Capitals: Jemimah Rodrigues, Shefali Verma and Marijan Kapp.
Gujarat Giants: Beth Mooney, Ashley Gardner and Sophie Devine.
UP Warriors: Deepti Sharma, Meg Lanning and Sophie Ecclestone.
With some big names entering the auction, an interesting competition can be seen between the franchises. RCB's Grace Harris, UP Warriors' Kiran Navgire and Chloe Tryon, Delhi Capitals' Lizelle Lee and Alana King and Gujarat Giants' Danny Wyatt-Hodge are among the players who have been released by their old teams.
England's batsman Sophia Dunkley and Australia's all-rounder Sophie Molineau have registered their names at the highest base price of Rs 50 lakh. The base price of Indian players G Kamalini and Kiran Navgire along with Australia's Heather Graham and Jess Jonason is Rs 40 lakh. Apart from this, 30 players have made it to the base price category of Rs 30 lakh.
The biggest challenge in the WPL 2027 auction will be to choose the right player and manage the budget. UP Warriors have eight vacant places and Rs 3.75 crore, with which they can bid on many players.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have to fill six places for Rs 90 lakh and have no slots left to choose foreign players.
In such a situation, only big names will not be in discussion in the auction. Uncapped Indian players will also get a chance to showcase their talent and make a place in the league. After this auction to be held in Kochi, the picture of the five teams will be clear to a great extent and their preparations will be completed for the WPL 2027 season starting in January.
