Delhi: Mumbai continued its winning streak in Ranji Trophy by defeating Haryana by 10 wickets. Mumbai registered a win with a bonus point at the MCA-BKC ground on Thursday. In this match, off-spinner Tanush Kotian bowled brilliantly and took 8 wickets in the second innings and for the first time in domestic cricket achieved the feat of taking 11 wickets in a match.
Kotian, who took 3 wickets for 70 runs in the first innings, took 8 wickets for 81 runs in the second innings. In this way, he took a total of 11 wickets in the match and played an important role in Mumbai's victory.
Haryana team, which came to play follow-on, started the day with 73 runs for 2 wickets. However, the entire team was limited to 256 runs in the second innings. Mumbai got the target of only 97 runs to win, which it achieved in 10.4 overs without losing any wicket.
Mumbai opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored unbeaten 67 runs in 39 balls. His innings included 7 fours and 3 sixes. At the same time, Divyansh Saxena returned unbeaten after scoring 30 runs on 25 balls.
For Tanush Kotian, this performance has come at a time when he is trying to attract the attention of the Indian selectors. He was last included in the Indian Test team in December 2024. At that time Ravichandran Ashwin had retired from Test cricket during the Australia tour.
Kotian is still a part of the India A team, but at present it is not looking easy for him to make a place in the senior team. During India's tour of Sri Lanka this year, he saw another off-spinner Saransh Jain make his Test debut in Colombo.
Kotian says that he is constantly working on improving his bowling and he hopes that its effect will be visible on the field this season. He also performed well against Australia A before the start of Ranji Trophy. In that match, he took 7 wickets along with scoring a half-century.
After the match against Haryana, Kotian told that he has worked on his line and length. Besides, 2-3 new changes have also been made in the bowling, which are proving helpful for them.
He said, 'I have improved my line and length. I have made 2-3 changes which are helping me. I am working on my accuracy. Today I was trying to bowl according to my rhythm. I was trying to bowl as fast as I could.
Taking 11 wickets in a match has definitely boosted Kotian's confidence, but he knows that to make a place in the Indian team, he will have to take wickets continuously and continue his performance.
When asked about his selection in the Indian team, Kotian said that he focuses only on those things which can be kept under his control.
