Bangladesh slip to fifth in WTC points table after defeat to West Indies; where does India stand?
West Indies beat Bangladesh by eight wickets in the first Test after opener Brandon King scored an unbeaten 81 to help the visitors chase down a target of 170 on Saturday.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 142 in their second innings, setting West Indies a target of 170 after losing nine wickets to the opposition spinners. West Indies captain Roston Chase led the attack with figures of 5-36, while left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican followed his 5-53 in the first innings with 4-63 in the second.
On a pitch that continued to deteriorate on the fourth day, West Indies openers John Campbell and King chose to attack rather than defend against the spinners. The day's play was interrupted by bad light, rain and lightning, but the openers put on 112 runs for the first wicket, taking the game away from Bangladesh.
"The two openers gave us a good start,” Chase said. “Sometimes, when a couple of wickets fall early, it creates a bit of panic in the dressing room, but the guys went out there today and got us off to a lovely start in the second innings.
It gave us that momentum, and we carried it right through to the end."
India move up to fourth in WTC standingsThe result also helped India move up from fifth to fourth in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, while Bangladesh dropped to fifth.
Bangladesh now have a points percentage of 47.62, while India are on 51.52. West Indies remain eighth but have moved closer to seventh-placed Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh had scored 272 in their first innings before dismissing West Indies for 245.
However, their second-innings total of 142 left them with a lead of just 169, which the visitors chased down with ease.
