Delhi: There is a good news for the fans of the Indian cricket team. Actually, former captain Rohit Sharma can be seen playing for Mumbai in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026-27. Rohit has told the Mumbai Cricket Association that he will be available for the domestic tournament after the end of the home ODI series against Sri Lanka. This will give them a chance to play matches in preparation for next year's ODI World Cup.

According to the report of The Indian Express, Rohit will play a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka from 13 to 19 December. After this he will join the Mumbai team in Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, he will give information about how many matches of the tournament he will play later.

Rohit will play for Mumbai after Sri Lanka series

An official of Mumbai Cricket Association said that Rohit has given information about playing in Vijay Hazare Trophy. He said that Rohit will be available after the ODI series against Sri Lanka, but how many matches he will play is not decided yet.

Three ODI matches against Sri Lanka will be played in Delhi, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. The series will start from 13th December and end on 19th December. After this, India also has to play three T20 matches against Sri Lanka, but Rohit will not be a part of this series. In such a situation, he will have a chance to play for Mumbai in the last 10 days of the league stage of Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Vijay Hazare Trophy was also played last season

Rohit Sharma also played for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last season. He took part in two matches in Jaipur.

In the first match, Rohit batted brilliantly against Sikkim and scored 155 runs in 94 balls. However, in the next match against Uttarakhand, he was out on the very first ball.

Rohit has earlier played 18 matches for Mumbai in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Now once again his return to domestic cricket can give experience and strength to the Mumbai team.

Will benefit in preparation for ODI World Cup

Rohit Sharma now plays only ODI cricket for the Indian team. He retired from T20 International in 2024 and Test cricket in 2025.

Keeping in view the ODI World Cup to be held next year, Vijay Hazare Trophy can be important for him. The three-match ODI series between India and Zimbabwe will start from January 3. After this, the Indian team does not have any ODI match before IPL.

In such a situation, playing in the domestic tournament will give Rohit a chance for match practice. He is also part of the Indian team for the five-match ODI series against New Zealand starting next week.
