India defeated Sri Lanka by 43 runs in the first T20I. The host nation was in the game for a long time but regular fall of wickets in the last phase of their chase resulted in their loss. Chasing 214 runs, Sri Lanka were restricted to 170 runs in 19.2 overs.
Pathum Nissanka (79) and Kusal Mendis (45) were going great guns but their dismissal put Lanka on the back foot. Riyan Parag took three wickets.
