The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has received news of Rohit Sharma's availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy as the star player is set to rejoin the state team after completing his international duties.
According to a report in The Indian Express, Rohit has told the MCA he will feature in some capacity. However, an MCA source said the veteran will clarify how many games he will play later. India are set to take on Sri Lanka in a three-game ODI series from December 13 to 19 in Delhi, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad while the Vijay Hazare League phase takes place from December 14 to 29.
The knockout stages take place from January 2 to January 8.As the two tournaments overlap, Rohit Sharma will be available for the final games of the league phase for Mumbai. But he will miss the T20I series against Sri Lanka after announcing his retirement from T20I cricket in 2024.
It will be Rohit's second consecutive year participating in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Last year, he played two matches for Mumbai as they traveled to Jaipur. He starred with an incredible innings of 155 off just 94 balls against Sikkim, but was let down by a poor display against Uttarakhand, where he was bowled for a golden duck.
The availability of Rohit Sharma will come at an important time for India as they prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup. As there are no ODI commitments between the series against Zimbabwe in January and the start of the IPL, Rohit could use the tournament to keep himself in good rhythm.
Rohit is also being touted as a possible return as skipper for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2027. However, the franchise has yet to make an official statement.
