Chennai Super Kings might drop one of their two big-ticket signings ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction, and Prashant Veer looks set to be dropped. The Uttar Pradesh all-rounder was signed for a massive INR 14.2 crore last time around, but may not have justified his price.
Despite being signed for the same amount as wicketkeeper batsman Kartik Sharma, who came into CSK with high expectations, Veer has had a contrasting campaign with his teammate. With this in mind, CSK may want to keep Sharma in, but could look to drop Veer as they look to gain more money ahead of the auction.
Prashant Veer, playing in six games, managed to amass 90 runs. But the 20-year-old did not manage to take any wickets. He scored a high of 43 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Kartik Sharma, however, had a more productive season. The Rajasthan star scored 295 runs in 11 games, averaging 32.77. He hit a high score of 71 against Lucknow Super Giants. The numbers were decent from a middle-order batter and will boost his chances of being retained.
But CSK have not yet decided who to retain. They are currently in talks about who to retain and release, said a franchise official.
However, even though Veer may be released, CSK are interested in retaining him for a reduced fee. If he is released, then they can try to get him back based on how much he goes for in the auction.
With 2.4 crore INR left in their purse and the salary cap increasing by 5 crore INR, their purse will increase to 7.4 crore INR. If they release players, it can help them build a larger budget as five-time champions.
Franchises have until November 15 to submit a list of who to retain and release.
Punjab Kings have quashed rumors they are considering trading Marco Jansen before the auction.
Sources close to the franchise have said they have no plans to release the South African all-rounder.Jansen has been in fine form in white-ball cricket recently, winning Player of the Series in the three-test series against Australia. He has also received great praise for his performances and was praised by former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn, who called him the best cricketer in the world in a social media post last month.
Last season, Jansen had a disappointing season in the IPL, taking just nine wickets in 12 games.
He had an economy rate of over 10 and an average of over 50. He scored just 51 runs in five innings. However, his recent form in international cricket could see him strengthen his place in the PBKS side. The left-arm pacer is currently ranked number one in the ICC Test rankings for both bowlers and all-rounders, but his Test success may not translate into T20.
Marco Jansen was signed by Punjab Kings for 7 crore INR in the 2025 mega auction. Despite his poor figures last season, they seem keen to keep him in their ranks.
