This means he will also retire from four-day and 50-over cricket for Victoria. However, he will still play in franchise T20 leagues such as the Big Bash League (BBL) with Melbourne Stars.
Glenn Maxwell has opened up about his retirement in an interview on The Final Word cricket podcast and acknowledged how thankful he was to play for Australia.
“I'm grateful to have played for my country,” he said.
The Victorian all-rounder admits he may not have thought he would achieve what he has in his career since joining their set-up in 2009.

He has scored five T20I centuries to tie with India's Rohit Sharma for the most centuries in the format.Maxwell retired from ODIs in 2025, having scored 3,990 runs. However, he was an integral player for Australia in their white-ball side due to his destructive batting, off-spin bowling and excellent fielding.
One of the most iconic moments of Maxwell's international career will always be his stunning unbeaten double century against Afghanistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup in Mumbai.
Australia were in complete shock after they were bowled out for just 91/7 chasing 292.
It seemed like Afghanistan were in complete control of the game; however, Maxwell produced one of the greatest individual performances in ODI history.Despite battling some serious cramps, Maxwell hit an unbelievable 201 not out from just 128 balls to lead his side to an incredible win.
Maxwell also had another iconic performance in the same tournament, hitting a century against the Netherlands from just 40 balls. This set a new record for the fastest century in men's ODI World Cup history at the time.
Maxwell played an important role in Australia winning three World Cups. He was involved in their 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cup victories as well as their 2021 T20 World Cup win.
Maxwell was an incredibly valuable player for Australia in their limited-overs sides due to his ability to swing the momentum of a game in a matter of overs. Whether it was his ability to bat aggressively against fast bowlers, hit unorthodox shots against spinners or contribute with the ball, Maxwell always added an element of unpredictability to Australia's game.
Maxwell's retirement marks the end to an incredible era for Australia in white-ball cricket. He has provided fans with some thrilling cricket over the past decade and will leave international cricket as one of the most unique players of his generation.
Although his international career has come to an end, fans will still get to see his explosive batting in the franchise T20 leagues across the world.
