Washington Freedom performed brilliantly in the final of Major League Cricket 2024 played at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas and defeated San Francisco Unicorns by 96 runs to win the MLC 2024 title.

Captain Steve Smith was the hero of victory for Freedom, who played a quick innings of 88 runs in the match and took his team past 200. Unicorns had got a target of 208 runs to win but they could not even reach close to this target and were all out for 111 runs in 16 overs.

In this match, Unicorns won the toss and decided to bowl first. Freedom lost its first wicket in the form of Travis Head at a score of just 11 runs and then this decision seemed to be proving right but Steve Smith along with the other batsmen did not let Freedom's train derail and kept Unicorns on the backfoot.

Before getting out, Smith played a stormy innings of 88 runs in 52 balls with the help of 7 fours and 6 sixes. Apart from Smith, Glenn Maxwell also played an innings of 40 runs in 22 balls and took the team past 200. Pat Cummins took the maximum of 2 wickets for Unicorns.

After this, the Unicorns team, which came out to chase a mountainous target, needed a good start but it did not happen. Unicorns' dangerous opener Jake Fraser McGurk became the victim of Marco Jensen in the third over after scoring just 3 runs.
