Delhi: Amid the ongoing uproar in Bangladesh, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering shifting the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 out of Bangladesh. The tournament is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh from October 3 to October 20.

Its ninth edition is scheduled to be held at two venues, namely the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka and the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet. However, just three months before the event, Bangladesh's hosting rights are at risk due to unrest in the country.

The ICC said in a statement that the cricket body is closely monitoring the situation in the country and is in touch with its security agencies. The ICC also said that the security of all the countries participating in the tournament is their priority.

The statement issued by the ICC said, “The ICC, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), their security agencies and we are closely monitoring the developments. Our priority is the safety and well-being of all participants.”

Coup in Bangladesh

It is noteworthy that there have been protests by students against the quota system for government jobs in Bangladesh. However, in the last few days the protests have taken a violent turn and more than 300 people have been killed. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also resigned from her post and has come to Delhi with her sister. There has been a coup in Bangladesh.

It is worth noting that the Australian women's team is the current champion of the ICC T20 World Cup, having won the last three editions. They won the title in the last tournament held in South Africa by defeating the host team by 19 runs in the final.
