Neeraj, who starts well in every event, had a slight setback this time. His very first throw was a foul because when he fell in his follow-through after throwing the javelin, his right foot came out of the line a little.

Although his throw was more than 86 meters, it was not considered. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem's first throw was also a foul, but in the next throw, Arshad secured the gold medal with 92.97 meters. With this, he also made a new Olympic record. Neeraj also made a comeback in the next throw and secured the second place with 89.45 meters.

In this way, Arshad Nadeem became the first Pakistani athlete to win a gold medal in an individual event at the Olympics. With this, Pakistan succeeded in winning an Olympic medal after 32 years.

Earlier, Pakistan had won a bronze medal in men's hockey at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He also became only the third athlete to win an individual medal for Pakistan at the Olympics.

With this, Neeraj Chopra became only the second Indian to win a gold medal in the Olympics and the first athlete to win any medal in athletics. In that final, Neeraj overtook Julian Weber, Jakub Vadlech and Johannes Vetter, who were already considered contenders for victory in this event.
