Delhi: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has approached the new interim government, which has come into power after violent protests forced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and leave the country, to seek assurances about hosting the Women's T20 World Cup in October.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in Dhaka and Sylhet from October 3 to 20, so the BCB is working hard to ensure security arrangements for this big tournament.

The BCB is facing a number of hurdles as it tries to ensure that Bangladesh gets the hosting rights. Apart from waiting for a response from the interim government, the board is functioning in a disorganised manner as several officials are not present in the country.

“We did talk to them (the military), but by that time the (interim) government had been formed. Since it has been formed, they will give it priority as required,” BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told The Daily Star.

What does the ICC say?

Before approaching the interim government, the BCB had sent a letter to the military seeking assurances about the security of the World Cup. The ICC is also closely monitoring the situation in the country and is considering India, UAE and Sri Lanka as alternative options in case Bangladesh fails to host the event.
