Paris Olympics 2024 may be over, but the issue of wrestler Vinesh Phogat is still hot. Vinesh Phogat, who was considered a contender to win a medal in Paris Olympics 2024, was disqualified before the final match due to excess weight. Vinesh participated in the 50 kg category of women's wrestling, but before the final her weight was found to be 100 grams more. After which questions are being raised continuously on the medical team. But now Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha has given a big statement on this issue.

Who is responsible for Phogat's weight gain?

After Vinesh Phogat's disqualification, a section is targeting the IOA's medical team, especially Dr.

Dinshaw Pardiwala and his team, and accusing them of negligence. But PT Usha clearly says that it is not right to blame the medical team. PT Usha said, 'In sports like wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, judo, the responsibility of weight management of athletes lies with every athlete and his coach, not IOA's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala and his team. Hatred towards the IOA's medical team, especially Dr. Pardiwala, is unacceptable. We will consider all the facts before reaching any conclusion.'

PT Usha further said, 'The Chief Medical Officer appointed by the IOA, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala and his team were brought on board a few months before the Games. Their job was to assist in the recovery and injury management of the athletes during and after the event. In addition, the IOA medical team was designed to support those athletes who did not have their own team of nutritionists and physiotherapists. She also said that every Indian athlete at the Paris Olympics had their own support team in such a sport. These teams have been working with the athletes for many years.

The decision on the medal will come on August 13

Vinesh has appealed against her disqualification in the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), the highest court in sports. Phogat had earlier demanded to play the final match, but on her appeal, CAS said that it cannot stop this match, after which Phogat demanded a joint silver medal. The hearing in this case has been completed and a decision on this matter can come by the evening of August 13.
