Former England batsman and Surrey veteran cricketer Graham Thorpe died on 5 August. Graham Thorpe turned 55 on 1 August, 4 days before his death. He was ill for a long time. But 7 days after his death, his wife has made a big revelation. Thorpe's wife revealed that Thorpe had committed suicide on his own. Thorpe had also attempted suicide in May 2022, after which he was admitted to the hospital.
Graham Thorpe's wife Amanda revealed that he had been suffering from depression and anxiety for the past few years. He was very ill in recent times and he really felt that we would be better off without him and we are very sad that he did this and committed suicide.
We supported him as a family and he tried many treatments, but unfortunately none of them were really working.Graham Thorpe started his international career for England in the year 1993. During this time he played 100 Tests for England in which he scored 6744 runs. He scored 16 centuries and 39 half-centuries in Tests. Apart from this, Thorpe scored 2380 runs with the help of 21 half-centuries in 82 ODIs for England.
Thorpe was a legend of the English county team. He scored 21937 runs with the help of 49 centuries in 341 first class matches. He also scored 10871 runs in List A in which 9 centuries came from his bat. Thorpe scored a total of 58 centuries in his professional career.Graham Thorpe started his coaching career in the year 2005. He initially worked as a coach with the New South Wales and England Lions teams. After this, in early 2013, Thorpe became the batting coach of England's ODI, T20 team. After this, he became the interim coach of the team during the T20 series against Pakistan in 2020.
