The Paris Olympic Games 2024, which came after waiting for three whole years, are now over. In the world's biggest sporting event that lasted for about two and a half weeks, like every time, many players won medals by giving amazing performances. Along with this, they also won the hearts of the world. Most of the players were disappointed this time too. Like every time, India also got a little happiness and more sorrow. Along with all this, like every Olympics, this time too there were some big controversies and like every Olympics, India also had a part in it. Let us tell you about 5 such big controversies, towards which the eyes of the whole world turned-

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat

India's star wrestler Vinesh Phogat was participating in her third Olympics and after the failures of the last two Olympics, she was on the verge of winning a medal this time. Vinesh was participating in the 50 kg category and had surprised everyone by defeating world number-1 Yui Susaki of Japan in the very first match. Vinesh made it to the finals by winning 3 matches in a single day, but on the day of the final, the whole country got a big shock along with her. The final was to be held on 7 August, but the same morning Vinesh's weight was found to be 100 grams more than the prescribed limit, after which she was disqualified from the entire tournament.

This shook the entire wrestling world including India. Vinesh appealed against this in CAS and demanded a silver medal. The hearing was held here on 9 August and the decision on this will be taken on 13 August.

wrestler final match

This Olympics did not prove to be very good for Indian wrestling. 19-year-old Antim Panghal was participating in her first Olympics and was knocked out in the first round itself.

After her defeat, there was a ruckus for other reasons. Actually, after her bout, Antim cited ill health and went out of the Games Village with her sister to the hotel. After this, it came to light that Antim Panghal tried to get his sister to enter the Games Village with his accreditation card. In this attempt, the police caught sister Seema Panghal and she was released after the intervention of the IOA. Not only this, her coach was also accused of fighting with a cab driver over money. Antim denied these allegations and said that his sister had gone to the Games Village to get the goods because she was unwell.
The IOA ordered Antim to return to the country immediately and now the sword of a 3-year ban is hanging over her.

boxer iman khalif

Before Vinesh Phogat, the biggest controversy that happened in the Olympics, which was discussed all over the world and is still being discussed, is Algerian boxer Iman Kheleif and her gender. In the women's 66 kg weight category, Iman Kheleif's first match was against Italy's Angela Carini, whom Kheleif defeated in just 46 seconds. Kheleif's punch had shaken Carini and she left the match midway and started crying. After this, the biggest uproar started.

Kheleif was accused of being a 'biological male', that is, she was born as a male but she was fighting in the women's category. The basis for this was the decision of the International Boxing Association, which disqualified Kheleif a year ago because 'XY' chromosomes were found in her medical test, which are found in men. There was an uproar over this all over the world, but the Olympic Committee supported her and raised questions on IBA's testing. Ultimately Kheleef won the gold medal in this category.

Swimmer Luana Alonso

20-year-old Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso could not do anything special with her performance but she definitely made headlines. Alonso could not even reach the semi-finals of her competition and her journey ended in the qualification itself. Even after this, she stayed in the Games Village for some time and then suddenly the news came that she had been expelled. Reports claimed that she was expelled because of her beauty, because she was constantly active on social media and this was causing trouble for her fellow players. She was also accused of inappropriate behavior. Alonso denied all these claims and said that she was not expelled at all. However, Alonso also announced her retirement immediately.

gymnast jordan chiles

While on one hand Vinesh Phogat was eliminated even before winning the medal, American gymnast Jordan Chiles was stripped of the medal after winning it. Vinesh appealed to CAS to demand her silver medal, on the other hand, Chiles had to lose the medal due to the decision of CAS. Actually, Chiles got the bronze medal in the floor exercise event of gymnastics. But an appeal was made against it in CAS and here he lost. CAS said in its decision that during the event, Chiles' coach Cecil Landy had appealed to add 0.1 points to the score, which was accepted but he made this appeal 4 seconds after the 1 minute window set by the Gymnastics Federation. That is, he made this appeal in 1.4 seconds, which was then accepted but it was wrong. In such a situation, that 0.1 was removed from his score and the bronze was taken away. Romania's Ana Barbosu got the bronze.

Hockey player Tom Craig

These Olympics were not good for the Australian men's hockey team and the team could not reach the podium. On one hand, it lost to India 2-3, while it was defeated by Belgium 6-2 and Netherlands 2-0. If this was not enough, the act of one of its players became a cause of shame for the entire team and the country. 28-year-old Tom Craig was caught by the Paris Police while trying to buy cocaine from a 17-year-old boy outside the Games Village. However, after this the police released him without registering any case but the Australian Olympic Committee expelled him completely. Craig later admitted his mistake and apologized.
