ICC July month Award Winners: On Monday, 12 August, the ICC announced the names of the players who won the ICC Player of the Month award based on their strong performance in the month of July. England's young fast bowler Gus Atkinson won the award in the men's category, while Sri Lanka's Chamari Atapattu was successful in winning this award in the women's category. Gus Atkinson defeated India's young all-rounder Washington Sundar and Charlie Cassell.

Chamari Atapattu was challenged by Indian team's vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma.

Gus Atkinson wreaked havoc in his debut test

Gus Atkinson, who made his Test debut for England last month, wreaked havoc against the West Indies by taking 12 wickets in his very first match. He took 22 wickets in that three-match series.

Atkinson also expressed happiness on winning the Player of the Month award and said, 'It is really an honour to win the ICC Player of the Month award.

My Test career has had an incredible start and I never thought that I would get so much success in my first series played for England.'

Along with this, the right-arm fast bowler also thanked his head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes and said, 'It is an honor to play and represent your country. I know there is a lot of hard work ahead, especially with a big series coming up against Sri Lanka. I am excited to maintain consistency and give my best to make England successful.'

Chamari Atapattu won the Player of the Month award for the third time

Sri Lankan captain Chamari Atapattu's performance has been excellent for some time now. She played an important role in helping her team win the Asia Cup 2024 title. This is the third time Atapattu has won this award.

On becoming the winner, Atapattu said, 'I am happy and honored to be selected as the ICC Women's Player of the Month for the third time and it is a pleasure to see that my efforts, which have been achieved with the support of my teammates and coaches, are being consistently appreciated by the cricket world.

I believe that this will send a positive message to thousands of girls, already playing cricket in my country and elsewhere and wanting to play for their country. They will definitely get the fruits of their commitment and dedication towards the game one day.'
